Sports Performance Program

Hello, parents and athletes of Ottawa City Soccer Club!

It’s a pleasure to meet you all. My name is Sam, and I’m a high performance strength and conditioning coach. I own a training facility in Ottawa, called Adaptive State Performance. I’m very excited to begin working with you all this year to further your athletic development, and improve your sports performance.
I’ve been working with athletes of all sports, levels, and ages, ranging from amateur to professional, as well as the general public for several years in Ottawa. Some highlights of my career include working with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators and several other professional hockey players; coaching members of Gymnastic Canada’s rhythmic gymnastic team; training international hockey players at the Canadian International Hockey Academy; and working with several of Ottawa’s top sports organizations in softball, volleyball, and hockey. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with leading professionals in the field of strength and conditioning since the internship stage of my university degree. I’ve also worked alongside health care specialists in one of Ottawa’s premier sports medicine clinics; including physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors, athletic therapists, and massage therapists.

My university education and professional certifications include:

• BSc. HK – Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Human Kinetics – University of Ottawa
• CSCS – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist – National Strength and Conditioning Association
(NSCA)
• PN1-NC – Precision Nutrition Level 1 – Certificate in Exercise Nutrition
• Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED Certified

My personal experience with sport performance, injuries and physical rehabilitation lead me to my degree in Human Kinetics. I chose to specialize in strength and conditioning training, as I am passionate about improving health and performance of athletes and non-athletes alike. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of performing at a higher level than they might think, and it is my mission to guide them in their pursuit of excellence, whatever their definition of excellence may be.

In my youth, I played competitive soccer, basketball, and volleyball, and participated in track & field. As an adult, I love to stay active and competitive with sports and physical activities. I currently train and compete in Muay Thai and boxing, and play volleyball competitively in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, both on the beach and indoor court. I play softball recreationally and enjoy rock climbing.

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Samantha Batchelor BSc. HK, CSCS, PN1-NC
